IRVIN, Carol McKay, passed away July 2, 2010. She was born on October 9, 1946 in Newport News, VA, and was a lifelong resident of the Tampa Bay area. She attended Roosevelt Elementary School, Wilson Junior High School and H.B. Plant High School. She graduated from the University of Georgia where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, and received a Masters Degree in Elementary Special Education from Butler University. Carol was a teacher for more than 40 years and made a lasting difference in the lives of many young people, particularly children with special needs. She also contributed to the community through her work with the Junior League of Tampa and recently through the Florida Guardian ad Litem program. Carol was preceded in death by her son Charles Robert Irvin and her parents Joyce and K.I. McKay. She is survived by her daughter Cristine Phillips, brothers Kenneth McKay and Charles McKay, sister Bonnie Jordan, aunt Shirley Knight, aunt and uncle Joan and Howell McKay, and many cousins. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, July 8 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., and a service will be held on Friday, July 9 at 10:00 a.m., both at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 605 S.
